Play the game The Floor is Lava
- Put rocks (pieces of paper - safe zones) on the floor from one side to another. Put them close enough so students can step safely onto them without jumping or leaping. Pick 2 random rocks. If someone ends on one of these rocks, he/she needs to go back to start.
- Roll a dice to see how many rocks you can move.
- If you touch the lava, go back to start.
- If you end on one of the random rocks, go back to start.
- The first person to cross to the other side of the room without touching the lava wins.
Variations
- Two-Digit Triumph
- Write two-digit numbers (46, 69, etc.) on every piece of paper.
- When you stop on a piece of paper, roll the dice again.
- Identify the number of ones in the two-digit number if you roll 1, 2, or 3.
- Identify the number of tens in the two-digit number if you roll a 4, 5, or 6.
- If you're correct, you get to stay. If you're wrong, go back to start.
- Sight Word Safety
- Write sight words on every piece of paper.
- When you stop on a piece of paper, read the sight word.
- If you're correct, you get to stay. If you're wrong, go back to start.
